Dr. Evan Kaplan has been examining patients in the Bronx since opening Eye Care Unlimited in 1992. He provides full scope family eyecare for newborns to those over 100 years old. In addition to normal vision exams, treating patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eyes, he has a subspecialty in cornea and contact lenses.
Dr. Kaplan is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and SUNY/ College of Optometry where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree and a Master of Science degree in Vision Science. Following graduation, he completed a Fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lenses and will see patients in need of specialty soft lenses, gas permeable lenses, hybrid lenses, and custom designed scleral lenses for a variety of eye conditions.
Dr. Kaplan has been an Associate Clinical Professor at SUNY College of Optometry since 1990, 17 of those years as the Chief of the Cornea, Contact Lens and Refractive Surgery Service. He is also an Attending Optometrist at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai teaching within the Cornea service. Over the years, he has taught over 2000 Optometry students and 130 Ophthalmology Residents and serves as a referral base for many practicing Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
Dr. Kaplan has been on the Board of Directors of the New York Academy of Optometry for the past 30 years, currently serving President. He is also on the Optometric Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Society Board of Directors, a group of highly trained optometrists in those areas. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Fellow of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators. Dr. Kaplan is an international lecturer on topics related to cornea surgery/conditions, specialty contact lenses and dry eye disease and is a consultant for many contact lens and pharmaceutical corporations.
